takeCHARGE announces K-I-C Start school contest winners
takeCHARGE, a joint partnership between Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) and Newfoundland Power, is pleased to announce the winners of the 3rd annual Kids in Charge (KIC) school contest.
The aim of the province wide contest is to raise awareness about the importance of saving energy among elementary and high school students across the province.
Students in Grades K to 12 were invited to submit projects that demonstrate energy conservation in creative and effective ways for a chance to win iPads for their schools. Over 70 submissions were received, including videos, posters, magazines and songs.
“I would like to congratulate all of the participating students for their exceptional submissions and for their commitment to energy efficiency,” says Diane Whalen, Manager of Energy Conservation, takeCHARGE, Newfoundland Power. “We are thrilled to offer this contest as part of our school program. It is important to continue to develop awareness with today’s youth about the importance of energy conservation.”
“This year’s entries have shown that students are highly involved and engaged when it comes to learning about energy efficiency and conservation,” adds Barry Brophy, Energy Efficiency Manager, takeCHARGE, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. “They have an understanding of energy savings and were able to identify simple and fun ways to become more energy efficient.”
